Ambassador Program

In late 2022, in an effort to expand Home2First’s reach in both the Dominican Republic and Arizona, we started an “ambassador program” to enlist other high school student-athletes to lead their respective school’s efforts with Home2First.

We are honored to welcome our four ambassadors to the Home2First team as we know they will do great things on the baseball field and for the community.

    Who’s your favorite baseball player? Bryce Harper. He’s an outfielder like myself and I love the way he plays the game.

    Why did you want to become an ambassador for Home2 First? I wanted to become an ambassador for Home2First because I want to help the less fortunate people that love the game of baseball to get a chance and play for themselves.

    What is your favorite quote? "I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." -Michael Jordan

    What’s your current walk-up song of choice? The Motto by Drake feat. Lil Wayne

    What has been your favorite baseball moment in your career? My favorite baseball moment of my career so far was hitting my first home run in 9U at big league dreams.

    Who has helped you the most in your baseball career? My family and all of my coaches and mentors have helped me the most in my baseball journey. Without them I would be nowhere near the level I am at today.

    Who’s your favorite baseball player? Elly de la Cruz. I love the way he plays and how much he has impacted the game already.

    Why did you want to become an ambassador for Home2 First? When first being introduced to the foundation and the Penney family I knew I wanted to be apart of what was being created. I also love being able to help others in need, especially ones with the same passion as me.

    What is your favorite quote or motto? "Don't be upset by the results you didn't get with the work you didn't do"

    What’s your current walk-up song of choice? Running by 21 Savage

    What has been your favorite baseball moment in your career? In the DR when we were close in score on the first game of the week, stealing second and third base and then scoring on the wild throw when the catcher was trying to throw me out at 3rd.

    Who has helped you the most in your baseball career? All my success is due to my mom and dad. My coach Jorge and strength coach Juan have also helped a lot.

  • Caleb Sweeney - Valley Christian High School

    Favorite Baseball Player and Why? My favorite baseball player is Adley Rutschman because he is one of the best players in the game. He’s a switch hitter that can hit for average and for power.

    Why did I want to become an ambassador for Home2First? I wanted to be an ambassador so I could help other kids who are underprivileged have as great of an experience as I have had playing baseball.

    Favorite quote or motto? Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

    What sport would you play if not baseball? Skiing/ Pickleball

    Favorite baseball moment in career? My favorite baseball moment is hitting my first high school home run last year in the first game of the season.

    Who has helped me the most in baseball? My dad has had the most influence in my baseball career. My hitting coach, Max Rossiter. My pitching coach, Paul Hall.

    Favorite meal? Steak fajitas from Chuys in Texas.

    What is your favorite baseball player and why? Madison Bumgarner because I’ve been watching him since I was really young and he carries himself with a warrior attitude that I admire. 

    Why did you want to become an ambassador for Home2First? People take for granted how easy it is for us to play baseball and I believe others should have the same feeling even if they can’t afford it. 

    What is your favorite quote or motto? “Nobody Cares, Work Harder.”

    If you weren't a baseball player, what other sport would you play? Football because that’s the sport I played for half my life and I made the difficult decision of quitting to truly pursue baseball.

    What has been your favorite baseball moment in your career thus far? Everyday of hard work with my 2024 Chaparral baseball team, not a more fun group of dudes to play with.

    Who has helped you the most in your baseball career? My parents hands down and for the last year or so, my hardworking trainers that improve my arm from the worst pain ever. Casey Upperman, Andy Schweikert, and Kenny Ogg.

    What is your favorite baseball player and why? Bryce Harper. He plays with a lot of energy and always succeeds in the big moments. 

    Why did you want to become an ambassador for Home2First? I wanted to become an ambassador because it's a way to better Arizona's community and the DR. 

    What is your favorite quote or motto? "Average will find you, but greatest awaits you"

    What is your current walk up song of choice? Calabria 2008 

    If you weren't a baseball player, what other sport would you play? Football

    What has been your favorite baseball moment in your career thus far? Playing in the PBR Junior Future Games in Georgia for Arizona.

    Who has helped you the most in your baseball career? My hitting coach Nick DeRegis.

    What’s your favorite meal? Steak and loaded potato.

    What is your favorite baseball player and why? Randy Arozarena because he’s clutch, lights up a room, and stays positive through adversity. He also led Mexico to the semis in the WBC.

    Why did you want to become an ambassador for Home2First? I know some of the Dominican kids personally and they deserve to play baseball with the same opportunities and equipment, and I can help with that.

    If you weren't a baseball player, what other sport would you play? Soccer

    What has been your favorite baseball moment in your career thus far? Pitching in the Dominican Republic against the team I’d pitched for the week before.

    Who has helped you the most in your baseball career? My pitching coach, Luis Rosario.

    What’s your favorite meal? Scrambled eggs with chorizo, beans, homemade tortillas, and a smoothie.

    Who's your favorite baseball player and why? My favorite baseball player is Ketel Marte because he fields and hits well, all with a great personality and attitude.

    Why did you want to become an ambassador for Home2First? I wanted to become an ambassador because I want to help kids, who love the game of baseball but don't get opportunities like we do.

    What's your current walk-up song of choice? Superhero (Heroes & Villains) - Metro Boomin, Future, Chris Brown

    If you weren't a baseball player, what other sport would you play? Football or Basketball

    What has been your favorite baseball moment in your career thus far? Hitting a game-tying triple in the bottom of the last inning to get my all-star team into the State Championship.

    Who has helped you the most in your baseball career? My family and all my coaches have pushed me to become the player I am today.

    What's your favorite meal? Deep-dish pizza and chicken wings (from Lou Malnatis)

    Who’s your favorite baseball player? Javier Báez (El Mago) 

    Why do you want to become an ambassador for Home2First? For the past two years that I have traveled to the Dominican Republic I have been so impressed with this organization and what it stands for. I want to be able to share my passion of baseball with others and be able to  give back to the community.

    What’s your current favorite walk up song? 4K by El Alfa 

    What has been your favorite baseball moment in your career? This past summer in the DR I had the privilege to try out and perform in front of New York Met scouts.

    Who has helped you the most in your baseball career? My dad and mom, they have been there for me through it all. My dad will be out on the field in 110 degrees throwing BP to me, hitting grounders to me on the street and driving me around everywhere. Also my training coaches: Jorge Minety, Bobby Patton and Seth Barnett. 

    What’s your favorite food? Carne Asada street tacos with cilantro and onions.
