Alex’s Story

Ten year old Alex Guzman is a switch hitting, hard hitting 3rd baseman from Barrio Lindo in the Dominican Republic (DR), whose infectious smile shines even brighter when he's on a baseball field. His love for baseball started almost from birth, as he's the youngest of three brothers who essentially taught little Alex to hit and throw a baseball at the same time he learned to walk. Unfortunately, Alex is often forced to use a cardboard box cutout for a glove, an old stick for a bat, and outworn tennis shoes for cleats. Oftentimes, Alex and his friends are unable to play and forced to be spectators, as there's simply not enough basic baseball equipment to field a team.

After learning and sympathizing with Alex's story and thousands of aspiring, yet underprivileged ball players like him around the world, Landon & Ryan Penney knew they could help make a positive difference by starting the Home2First Foundation (H2F). While H2F’s mission is clear in providing baseballs, bats and gloves for unprivileged kids around the world, H2F has the far reaching and long term goal of establishing a foundation of building a positive and confident mindset that can be used to succeed not only on the baseball diamond, but in the game of life.

With that, H2F is excited to be officially launching with an equipment drive with Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers in the summer of 2021. From here, H2F will look to grow their partner and sponsorship programs, establish a scholarship program for local baseball clubs and expand their equipment donation reach to a larger number of underprivileged kids around the world. Landon and Ryan look forward to personally distributing all donated equipment to the many aspiring young ball players around the globe, including little Alex and his friends. We can already envision Alex's ear to ear smile after hitting a stand up triple with his new bat, helmet and cleats.
